Jagex Adds Ground Item Indicators and Loot Tracker to OSRS

All you need to know about the loot tracker and ground item indicators in OSRS.

For the first time in Old School RuneScape's history, mobile players with OSRS accounts for sale can see a quality of life change that will make missing out on loot worth millions of OSRS GP less probable. In May 2023, Jagex added ground item indicators to their mobile and steam clients that will display the name of the ground items and their value in gold on the Grand Exchange or their high alchemy value.

Display Text

The ground item indicator will, at a minimum, display the item's name, but you can set it up so that it displays the items’ value on the Grand Exchange and even the high alchemy value.

Suppose you want a simpler display, and you’re not interested in the exact value of the items and don’t want to clutter too much text on your screen. In that case, you should most likely disable the “show price” and the “alchemy values” settings since you will already know how much the items are worth based on each item's display color, which will indicate the value tier of each of your drops. However, having at least the Grand Exchange value of the items on display is much more recommended, even if you’re on an Ironman account, especially if you’re a new player.

Ground Items Timers

The ground item indicator is also handy for players who might not want to pick up their loot the moment they get it and want to keep an eye on the time left before the item disappears, which can differ based on whether you're playing in an instance or not and on other factors.

You'll have a longer time before the items disappear when you're in an instance, such as KBD's or the Kraken's private instances, and a shorter time to pick up your valuables when you're killing, for example, goblins in Lumbridge. Any tradeable drop will disappear after 120 seconds, but untradeable drops will last longer (180 seconds). Some boss instances will let you have this timer extended for up to 30 minutes so that you can play with your food and have longer runs at these bosses, often at the cost of paying an instance entry fee.

Another important aspect relates to killing monsters in bustling areas such as the Asgardian Ice Dungeon, where you might want to semi-AFK the Skeletal Wyverns without worrying that the other players doing this activity would pick up your loot.

The new ground item indicator can be customized to show you when the items become visible to the other players. Unless you’re in the Wilderness, all your drops will become visible to other players after 60 seconds. Still, if you’re dropping any non-consumable items in the Wilderness, they will instantly become visible to other players.

Edit Mode

You can enable the edit mode from the settings interface to long-tap any item and edit how the ground item indicator displays it. You can either hide the item or you can highlight it, so, for example, stuff that you don’t particularly want to pick up won’t be displayed, and this is especially useful for lower-level Slayer tasks that might drop bones or low-level ashes, which you don’t want to collect or have them clutter up your screen.

Custom Value

You can further customize your ground item indicator by opening the settings and searching for the ground items overlay entry. You can simply input this in the search box at the top of the settings interface for fast navigation but type it in full ‘ground items overlay’ since some settings won't be displayed if you input just the first two words.

You will be able to set the colors and values for up to 5 tiers or categories of items to be displayed there. By default, the tier 1 items start showing if they cost 0 coins and are displayed with white, tier 2 items have the minimal default value at 20k OSRS GP and are displayed with blue, and tier 3 items have their grand exchange value set at minimum 100k coins and are displayed with a green text. Tier 4 items are items worth anything over 1 mil gp and are displayed with orange; tier 5 items are worth over 10 mil gold and are displayed with pink-colored text. You can customize both the minimum value of each of these tiers and the color of the display text.
